How to do it, step by step

Open the Tanks tab and tap “Add tank”. Give it a name (e.g. “Reef 300L”), pick the type (freshwater, saltwater, reef, planted, brackish) and save. Gurglee already suggests the right parameters and target ranges for that kind of aquarium, so you can start right away.

When you create a new tank, Gurglee offers setup mode: a short wizard that walks you through the nitrogen cycle, the 4-8 weeks a tank needs to “mature” before it can host animals.

It explains the three stages (ammonia peak → nitrite peak → nitrate), asks a few questions about your tank (new or seeded water, with or without fish, live/dry rock or DSB for saltwater) and proposes the right reminders. The tank then shows a cycle card that reads your readings and tells you where you stand — celebrating milestones and telling you clearly when it's ready for its first guests. You can also start it later from the tank menu, and finish it whenever you like. The wizard, the cycle card and the milestones are free; the automatic reminders, the comparison chart (your cycle vs the typical curve) and the fishless ammonia-dose calculator are Premium.

Open the tank from the Tanks tab, then use the top menu to edit it (name, type, aliases) or delete it. Deletion is a soft-delete: the tank disappears from the app but the removal still syncs, keeping your devices aligned.

Aliases are alternate names you use for a tank when speaking or typing (e.g. “reef”, “big marine”). When you log a reading in natural language, Gurglee uses the name and aliases to figure out which tank you mean, so you don't have to pick it every time.

Go to the Measure tab and type naturally, e.g. “calcium 420 in the reef” or “kh 7.8”. Gurglee recognises parameter, value, unit and tank, converts to the reference unit and shows you its interpretation with a confidence score. Confirm with a tap and it's saved. Everything runs on-device, even offline.

Yes. In the Measure tab tap the microphone icon and dictate the value (e.g. “nitrate twenty in the freshwater”). Voice recognition is the operating system's on-device engine; the recognised text goes through the same parser as typed input. It needs the microphone permission. Where dictation isn't available (e.g. Windows) the app tells you and you can type instead.

Short chemical symbols are ambiguous (e.g. mg can mean magnesium or milligram) and numbers can use commas or dots. That's why Gurglee always shows the interpretation — “Calcium · 420 ppm · Reef 300L” — with a confirm step: any parser mistake is fixed with a tap before saving.

Open a tank, pick the parameter and tap “Add reading”: choose value, unit and the measurement date/time (which can differ from now). Multiple readings per day are allowed. Each value is also converted to the parameter's reference unit for the charts.

Open a tank and tap a parameter: you'll see the trend chart with the target band highlighted. The tank dashboard shows at a glance how many parameters are balanced and which are out of range, with an alert when a value leaves the limits you set.

Each tank has its own ranges. Open the tank, go to manage parameters and set the target min and max and the preferred unit for that parameter. When a reading falls outside that range, the tank flags it as “out of range”.

In the Activities tab tap “Add” and choose the kind: reminder, water change, fertilization, dosing or medication course. You can link a product and dose, set a recurrence (custom too) and, for medications, an end date. When it's due you get a local notification on the device.

In the Activities tab tap “Done” on the activity: the action is recorded in the log and a recurring activity automatically advances to its next due date (or turns off if it was one-off or at the end of its course).

Due-date notifications are local (no server) and work on the native apps (Android/iOS). On web and Windows they're not available. On mobile, make sure you granted the app the notifications permission in your system settings and that the activity has a next due date set.

Honor/Huawei (MagicOS) — and typically Xiaomi, Oppo and similar — use aggressive battery management that can block or delay reminders even with the permission granted. In Settings → Battery → App launch find Gurglee, turn off automatic management and allow Auto-launch, Secondary launch and Run in background. Also allow Alarms & reminders (exact alarms) in Settings → Apps → Gurglee.

To verify right away, open Menu → Diagnostics and use the test notification: it arrives after about 10 seconds, even with the app in the background.

Open the tank and go to Livestock to add fish, corals, invertebrates or plants. You can start from the species catalog, which includes reference sheets (needs, feeding, habitat). Corals are split into sections — soft, LPS, SPS, zoanthids, mushrooms and sponges — so you find what you need faster. This way you track who lives in each tank.

The wishlist is the list of species you'd like to add. The compatibility check helps you tell whether a species suits your tank and its current inhabitants, before you buy it.

From the menu (top icon) open the Calculators: water change (with an automatic suggestion of how much to change, sump included), salt, KH and calcium. Enter the required data and Gurglee tells you how much to dose. They're all free and work offline.

From the menu open Products (stock of food, fertilizers, medications, equipment, shared across tanks) and Expenses to track costs. You can link an Amazon item to a product: from there you reopen and rebuy it in one tap with “Restock”.

Use Notes & journal to record observations, important changes or ideas. It's your logbook: optional title and free text, all saved on the device.

Open the Account section (profile icon) and sign in, Google included. With an account you can start cloud sync: on the Free plan it's manual (“Sync now”), on Premium it becomes automatic in the background. Your local data remains the source of truth.

Full export (CSV + JSON backup) and import/restore without duplicates are part of the Premium plan. They let you take your data with you or restore it on a new device.

Everything that runs on the device is free forever. Premium adds the features that cost us to run: automatic background multi-device sync, full export/import and, coming soon, the AI fallback for trickier sentences and advanced trend analysis. You can download and use the whole Free plan with no account.

Yes: Gurglee is offline-first. Your aquarium data is stored on the device and that's the source of truth. No account is required to use it. The cloud is optional and only needed if you want to sync across multiple devices.

The Basic/Expert switch at the top filters what you see: Basic shows the essential parameters for beginners, Expert adds the advanced ones. You can change it any time: no data is lost, only what's shown changes.

Gurglee is available in Italian and English. On first launch it follows the device language; you can change it from the account settings. Both the interface and the parameter names and guide change accordingly.
